J. Lohr Women

Mar 04, 2019

Vintage to vintage, Family, Place, and Craft are at the heart of J. Lohr’s success. For two generations, the Lohrs have been leaders on California’s Central Coast. And, as Cynthia Lohr explains, “When we talk about ‘Family’ here, we’re really talking about Team.”

At J. Lohr, as at Wine Warehouse, talent and inspiration know no gender. Both industry-leading companies embrace diversity and rely on effective leadership by key female team members to contribute to the firms’ long success stories.

March is National Women’s History Month. But thirty-one days is just not enough time to tell all of the remarkable stories of the women of J. Lohr. So throughout early 2019, the #JLohrWomen campaign will be celebrating the contributions and personalities of some very inspirational associates, beginning with co-owner/trade and brand advocate Cynthia Lohr and white wines winemaker Kristen Barnhisel. Cynthia and Kristen will be featured across J. Lohr’s social media platforms, national print advertisements, and through dramatic new #JLohrWomen point-of-sale tools and displays.

Cynthia Lohr is certainly the most visible of the J. Lohr crew, given her almost daily interaction with the marketplace as a company co-owner and its trade & brand advocate. In addition to her father, founder Jerry Lohr, and brothers Steve and Lawrence, Cynthia provides an authentic, expert voice when presenting the historic, family-run brand’s stories and fine wines across the country. Cynthia also serves on the boards of industry associations like the Paso Robles Cabernet Collective and numerous philanthropic organizations dedicated to the Arts, youth education and engagement, and women’s health and well-being.

Both Cynthia Lohr and Wine Warehouse are deeply invested in the Women of the Vine & Spirits organization. WOTV&S is dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the alcohol beverage industry worldwide. The annual Women of the Vine & Spirits Global Symposium that takes place in Napa over three days in March has become a major event on the wine industry’s calendar. J. Lohr, as a Platinum Sponsor, is proud to have supported the Symposium since its inception.

As a prelude to the Symposium, Linda Myerson and Cynthia Lohr hosted Wine Warehouse Professional Development Days in San Francisco and Los Angeles in early February. And J. Lohr and Wine Warehouse will have team members participating on panels and seminars at the Symposium itself in March. While there is still much to be accomplished, it is an exciting time for the industry, as J. Lohr, Wine Warehouse, and other companies recognize and promote the important part women play in their current and future success.

J. LOHR’S AWARD-WINNING WINES

“This wine starts with plush aromas of yellow melon, plumeria, wild lime sorbet and a hint of cream. There is ample zip to the palate, where acidity and a strong floral character keep the honeydew and white peach flavors in check.” 90pts Wine Enthusiast, Best Buy

“Aromas of baked red cherry, rose and fennel lead into a palate loaded with strawberry, sagebrush, thyme and loamy soil.” 91pts Wine Enthusiast, Editors’ Choice

“Black cherry, smoke and a hint of caramel make for a very familiar and satisfying nose on this well-priced bottling. There is a deep core of black currant fruit, with chalky tannins, a dense mouthfeel and abundant acidity that drives into the finish.” 90pts Wine Enthusiast, Editors’ Choice

Savory fruit elements wrapped in a barrel signature of hazelnut and cocoa powder. Firm and angular in structure with red and blue fruits on the finish.

“Tight-grained oak aromas meet with lemon rind, lime blossom and a touch of smoke on the nose of this bottling. The savory palate is reminiscent of smoked chicken in a lemony herb sauce, dusted with sea salt and framed with a solid structure.” 92pts Wine Enthusiast

“Rich, ripe plum accents the aromas and leads to a seamless palate of dry, dusty tannins and Old World acidity. Coffee bean and dark chocolate intertwine with dark summer berries and spiced tobacco. It’s a teeth gripper ‘til the end.” 98pts Tasting Panel; 95pts Wine Enthusiast, Top 100 Cellar Selection
